Darren Ellis

Darren trained at Rambert Dance School (1987-90), at the Laban Centre, and Transitions Dance Company (1990-91). He has danced with David Massingham Dance, Janet Smith and Dancers, PAGE Dance Theatre (Freiburg, Germany), Mark Bruce Dance Company, Small Bones Dance Company, Jeremy James Dance Company, Matthew Bourne (SWAN LAKE original cast, CINDERELLA, NUTCRACKER! and PLAY WITHOUT WORDS), Random Dance Company, Snag Project (Jo Fong and Sarah Warsop), Richard Alston Dance Company and Unbroken (a dance theatre piece at the Gate theatre). Darren has been teaching at Rambert Dance School since 2003 and joined Richard Alston Dance Company as rehearsal director in August 2005 - 2008. Darren began choreographing in 2007 and  made two pieces, ROMEO ERROR (for Evolution at The Place) and TEMPT MY BETTER ANGEL (SPNM project for RADC);  Darren made a second piece NO MORE GHOSTS (2008) for  the Richard Alston Dance Company. Following that Darren has also created a piece on the Centre for Advance Training at The Place for the EXCELLENT Gala which was staged at Sadler’s Wells. In 2008 Darren was a part of the international research program CHOREOROAM at The Place where he created a solo on himself, STICKS AND BONES which has led to two further solo pieces for himself FROM THE WAIST UP and AFTER EFFECTS.

Martin Collins

Martin Collins MA, MSc began dancing with the Splinters dance company before training in theatre at Lancaster University, Dance Theatre & Dance Science at Trinity Laban. He has worked as a performer with some of the most innovative dance and theatre companies in the UK including Levantes Dance Theatre, Darren Ellis Dance, Ballet Boyz, Dukes theatre Company, Marlow Theatre, The Grange Park Opera, English National Opera, Tate Modern and the Nigel Charnock Company. He has also performed in a number of different feature films for the UK and Japan, TV and site-specific works commissioned by the BBC, RM Europe, and Independent British Film.

Martin has produced work for a number of prestigious national and international platforms including British Dance Edition, Sadler’s Wells, South Bank, the Royal Festival Hall, Roubaix and Burgos festivals. This has been done in collaboration with companies such as Lost Dog, Random Dance, Company of Elders, Royal Ballet School, Shobana Jeyasing, Henri Oguike Dance Company, Darren Ellis Dance, Pina Bausch Company, and Sarah Linstra.

Martin is currently the Company Director for Darren Ellis Dance, Artstrust (Production Company), and managing the Centre for Advanced Training at Trinity Laban.

Lee Curran

Lighting Designer
A lighting designer of over 12 years experience, mainly in contemporary dance but also in theatre, live music and film. He has worked with artists and organisations such as Hofesh Shechter, Rambert Dance Company, English Touring Theatre, Rafael Bonachela, The Roundhouse, Jonathan Burrows, Watford Palace Theatre, Darren Ellis, Iain Forsythe & Jane Pollard, and The Gate Theatre.

So far in 2011 Lee has lit the ETT/Watford Palace production of Great Expectations (dir. Nikolai Foster), The Fat Girl Gets a Haircut and other stories at The Roundhouse, London (dir. Mark Storor), and he is currently working on Hofesh Shechter's Political Mother - The Choreographer's Cut. In addition to his lighting design, Lee is Head of Technical at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London, UK. Lee has lit Sticks and Bones, 2009 and From the Waist Up, 2010 for Darren Ellis Dance

Rick Bland

Ricks collaboration with Darren Ellis Dance begun in 2007 with Romeo Error, since this time Rick has worked on Sticks and Bones, 2009 and the Place Prize Commission From the Waist Up, 2010.

Rick started his career as an actor working with the Reduced Shakespeare Company and some of the UK's top contemporary dance companies including the Mark Bruce Company, Ricochet and Darren Ellis Dance as well as originating the role of Jerry Springer in JERRY SPRINGER THE OPERA. While with the Reduced Shakespeare Company he co-wrote numerous pieces for BBC Radio. THICK, his first play, premiered at the 2003 Edinburgh Fringe Festival followed runs in Canada, a sell-out run at the Fringe NYC were Rick won Outstanding Actor anda self-funded UK Tour. It was revived for the 2010 Brighton Fringe Festival where it was awarded an Argus Angel for Outstanding Artistic Excellence. THICK has been turned into a screenplay and is playing at the New Diorama in London in September 2011. Rick is currently writing his newest play, Full of Bees.

Hannah Kidd

Design Credits for Darren Ellis Dance include, From the waist up, 2010, Dust and Scratches (Shift Youth) 2010, Chorea Magna (EDge) 2009.

Hannah began her training in dance at Elmhurst Ballet School. From Elmhurst she went on to continue at London Contemporary Dance School where she completed a BA (Hons) degree and her MA in dance. Film credits include, excerpt included in Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballet Russes, and Reassemble, Alcada 2009. Hannah is currently dancing with the Richard Alston Dance Company.
