Darren trained at Rambert Dance School (1987-90), at the Laban Centre, and Transitions Dance Company (1990-91). He has danced with David Massingham Dance, Janet Smith and Dancers, PAGE Dance Theatre (Freiburg, Germany), Mark Bruce Dance Company, Small Bones Dance Company, Jeremy James Dance Company, Matthew Bourne (SWAN LAKE original cast, CINDERELLA, NUTCRACKER! and PLAY WITHOUT WORDS), Random Dance Company, Snag Project (Jo Fong and Sarah Warsop), Richard Alston Dance Company and Unbroken (a dance theatre piece at the Gate theatre). Darren has been teaching at Rambert Dance School since 2003 and joined Richard Alston Dance Company as rehearsal director in August 2005 - 2008. Darren began choreographing in 2007 and made two pieces, ROMEO ERROR (for Evolution at The Place) and TEMPT MY BETTER ANGEL (SPNM project for RADC); Darren made a second piece NO MORE GHOSTS (2008) for the Richard Alston Dance Company. Following that Darren has also created a piece on the Centre for Advance Training at The Place for the EXCELLENT Gala which was staged at Sadler’s Wells. In 2008 Darren was a part of the international research program CHOREOROAM at The Place where he created a solo on himself, STICKS AND BONES which has led to two further solo pieces for himself FROM THE WAIST UP and AFTER EFFECTS.

Executive Director Martin Collins MA, MSc began dancing with the Splinters dance company before training in theatre at Lancaster University, Dance Theatre & Dance Science at Trinity Laban. He has worked as a performer with some of the most innovative dance and theatre companies in the UK including Levantes Dance Theatre, Darren Ellis Dance, Ballet Boyz, Dukes theatre Company, Marlow Theatre, The Grange Park Opera, English National Opera, Tate Modern and the Nigel Charnock Company. He has also performed in a number of different feature films for the UK and Japan, TV and site-specific works commissioned by the BBC, RM Europe, and Independent British Film. Martin has produced work for a number of prestigious national and international platforms including British Dance Edition, Sadler’s Wells, South Bank, the Royal Festival Hall, Roubaix and Burgos festivals. This has been done in collaboration with companies such as Lost Dog, Random Dance, Company of Elders, Royal Ballet School, Shobana Jeyasing, Henri Oguike Dance Company, Darren Ellis Dance, Pina Bausch Company, and Sarah Linstra. Martin is currently the Company Director for Darren Ellis Dance, Artstrust (Production Company), and managing the Centre for Advanced Training at Trinity Laban. Michael trained at the Rambert School, where he won a Wayne Sleep scholarship. His professional career has been varied working for Protein Dance Company, performing Dear Body and Happy Together under the direction of Luca Silverstrini. He has joined Precarious Multy Media physical theatre dance company with the show Anomie under the direction of Karla Shacklock and Dan Shorten. Michael has worked for the Rosie Kay Dance Company, performing in 5 Soldiers and The Great Train Dance. Michael has been a member of Parlor Dance since 2011 on the show Close Distance under the direction of Helen Parlor. He has also worked with Karla Shacklock dance company in The Crutch. Michael was a dance captain for the Opening of the Paralympic Games 2012, under the direction of Kevin Finnan and Helen Parlor. He did his first music video for “The Do” in “slippery slope”. Michael performed his own choreography Forbidden Love, which toured throughout London. Michael is also an accomplished teacher, delivering and choreographing work for the Centre of Advanced Training in Birmingham and delivering education work for Protein Dance Company. He is now delighted to be working with Daren Ellis Dance company on their new show. Dancer Faye was born in Dudley, England and started dancing at an early age becoming a Junior Associate with Birmingham Royal Ballet and performing with The National Youth Ballet of Great Britain. In 2008 she completed her BA Hons in Contemporary Dance at London Contemporary Dance School, performing in pieces by Merce Cunningham and Richard Alston and touring in collaboration with The Royal Ballet School. After graduating Faye took a break from dancing, moving to New Zealand where she worked on projects to protect endangered birds and their habitat. Faye returned to dancing full time in 2011 joining Companhia de Danca do Norte, Portugal. Back in London she has worked extensively with Needlefoot Dance Theatre Company developing her acting skills. Despite her classical and contemporary training Faye loves to throw herself into all styles of dance including hip-hop, house, lindy-hop and even traditional English Folk Dance. She now writes a blog to share the ups and downs of tackling dance one style at a time. Dancer Gareth trained at London Contemporary Dance School where he graduated in 2010 with a first class degree. Whilst there he danced works by Richard Alston, Siobhan Davies, Aletta Collins, Marc Brew, DanteOrDie, Anna Williams and Kerry Nicholls. He also performed work by James Cousins and was selected to perform at Buckingham Palace for Prince Andrew’s 50th birthday celebrations. After graduating he went on to study a Post Graduate Diploma in Performance with National Dance Company Wales under the artistic direction of Ann Sholem. Gareth joined NDCWales as a company member in 2011 where he worked with choreographers such as Ohad Naharin (Black Milk), Stephen Petronio (By Singing Light), Itzik Galili (Romance Inverse and The Grammar of Silence), Christopher Bruce (Dream), Angelin Prejlocaj (Noces), Gustavo Ramirez (Quioxte Land) and Eleesha Drennan (Phantoms Of Us and Virtual Descent). Ronan’s collaboration with Darren Ellis Dance first begun with After Effects, where he created a unique sound score and complex trigger system which enabled the drum kit to come to life. Ronen Kozokaro has been working as a professional musician for 20 years. In 2008 was awarded a Masters degree from London College of Music. Ronen is currently working as an accompanist/composer at the Laban Centre (Conservatoire for Contemporary Dance in London) and Matthew Bourne’s dance company “New Adventures”. Ronen also performs with various jazz and world music ensembles. His most recent album with“ Daphna Sadeh & The Voyagers” was produced by John Zorn for the Tzadik label in New York. His passion for interdisciplinary collaboration is at the heart of his work. |
